Training session details: Github Copilot App

Excerpt about the training session : Four years into the shift toward AI-assisted development, most teams are somewhere in the move from agents that assist : planning, building, and reviewing code as active participants, toward agents that work as genuine teammates, directed by a developer at the center. That shift has been powerful, but it has also scattered work across tools, made several running agents hard to track, and left pull requests with no record of what was tried or where human judgment was needed.

This session covers the GitHub Copilot app, built to close that gap: a single desktop workspace, layered on Copilot CLI, that carries a piece of work from issue to merge. The app bundles several agent sessions running in parallel, more than one way to collaborate with an agent, a canvas both people can edit together, and built-in handling of GitHub issues and pull requests plus Agent Merge, which takes a pull request the rest of the way: rebasing it, working through review comments, and clearing CI checks until it's ready to land. It's available on every Copilot plan, including Copilot Free and GitHub Education, and meets developers where they already work in VS Code and other IDEs, on GitHub.com and mobile, in Slack and Teams, and from the terminal. The talk is paired with a hands-on workshop built around a shared sample project, Tailspin Toys.

Across nine lessons, participants install the app, ship a first small pull request, guide the agent using custom instructions pulled from a real issue, and then build a genuine feature: a filtering option, by combining Plan mode with Autopilot. They verify it with the Playwright MCP server in a live browser, hand the result to Agent Merge to carry through review and CI, and plan collaboratively with the agent on a shared canvas.

The session closes with participants standing up their own automation and a simple way to decide how closely to supervise an agent: map out an approach in Plan mode before diving in, keep Interactive mode on hand for changes you want to watch step by step, and save Autopilot for narrow, self-contained work.
